ROATAN BUTTERFLY GARDEN
The Butterfly Garden is located in Mangrove Bight by West End and has a variety of colorful butterflies native to Honduras and the Bay Islands.
GARDEN Carambola Botanical Garden, located in Sandy Bay, offers a walk on the wild side where you can watch the playful monkey Lala scurry along jungle trails as you enjoy flowering plants, orchids, exotic spices & fruit trees, including the very popular "Chocolate Tree" and of course, the world famous Honduran mahogany tree. The gardens offer a perfect place for hiking, bird watching, wildlife and scenic photography, nature studies and of course relaxation. The ones who don't mind a walk up the hill can go up to a fantastic lookout.
Cayos Cochinos, a group of islands located 20 miles south of Roatan and 10 miles north of the Honduran coastline, is a Honduran National Marine Park. This archipelago is made up of more than a half dozen islands, including two major islands and a sprinkling of sandy keys.
CUERO Y SALADO WILDLIFE REFUGE
Ride the Standard Fruit Company coconut train, then ride a small boat through the refuge's five square miles of tropical wet forests, mangroves and estuaries. White- faced capuchins, howler monkeys, caimans, alligators, birds and the endangered West Indian manatee abound here.
GLASS BOTTOM BOAT TOURS
On Roatan, there are two air-conditioned, glass-bottom boats that will take you on an hour-long tour where you can peer out at the coral reef from seven feet under the water. The Underwater Paradise leaves from Half Moon Bay Cabins at Half Moon Bay, just east of West End. The Coral Reef Explorer operates out of West Point on West Bay Beach.
The Iguana Farm by French Harbour is owned by a local family that keeps several hundred iguanas on their property in order to protect the rare species from being eaten by locals. Young iguanas are breed to repopulate the island.
ROATAN INSTITUTE OF MARINE SCIENCE
The Roatan Institute of Marine Science at Anthony's Key Resort offers daily Dolphin Shows, Dolphin Encounters, Snorkeling and Diving with dolphins. For the show is no reservation necessary. We can make a reservation for the other activities.
TROPICAL TREASURES BIRD PARK
The brilliant tropical colors and charming personalities of Honduras' parrots, macaws and toucans are on display at this beachside bird park in Sandy Bay. It's a relaxing afternoon activity, and informative guided tours are offered to acquaint visitors with these fascinating and endangered birds kept in spacious aviaries. Originally a private collection, the park now contains one of the most complete parrot inventories in Central America, including the Scarlet Macaws, Great Green Macaw, Blue and Gold Macaw, Hans Macaw, White-crowned Parrot, White-fronted Parrot, Mealy Parrot, Red-lored Parrot, Orange-chinned Parakeets, Green Conures, Keel-billed Toucans, and Collared Aracaris. A special attraction is sub-species of the Yellow-Crowned Parrot, an endangered species endemic to the Bay Islands.
WHITE WATER RAFTING
Raft through the spectacular Nombre de Dios Mountains and a virgin rainforest. Guides will explain river geology, rain forest ecology, and the local campesino culture. Egrets, toucans, kingfishers and parakeets are frequently seen. Rio Cangrejal offers class ii – V experiences.
TREETOP CANOPY TOURS
Discover the exciting adventure awaiting you amongst the natural wonders of Roatan. This fascinating trip on the canopy rainforest offers guests the opportunity to see the natural flora and wildlife that exist on the island. UTILA IGUANA RESEARCH STATION
The research and breeding station is an interesting place to visit iguanas and the station has several species of iguana, including the Ctemosaura baberi, which is only found in the mangrove swamps of Utila.
Deep-sea fishing and bone fishing has recently become more popular on Utila, and there are a number of professionals available for you to charter.
Pumpkin Hill is a 3 mile hike from Utila town. the hike up the trail to the top of the hill offers the most spectacular views of Utila, and of Roatan island. Rumor has it that pirates hid their treasure in the caves surrounding Pumpkin Hill!
The Utila Keys is a collection of 12 small islets located off the southwest corner of the main island. For a complete escape from civilization, Water Caye is the ideal tropical beach paradise. Some of the islands are even available to rent for pure exclusivity.
