Caribbean – Bonaire

Bonaire is a small island located in the southern Caribbean known for its pioneering role in the preservation of the marine environment. Known for excellent shore diving, snorkeling, and world class windsurfing.

Many descriptions and slogans have been written about Bonaire: Best Kept Secret, Unhurried, Unspoiled, Unforgettable; Diver's Paradise; and the list go on... The fact is all these statements are true, and then some. Truth is over 30% of visitors on Bonaire are repeat customers!

There are a number of reasons people visit our island. First timers generally have heard about the climate, the water, the sun and diving. When asked, repeat visitors generally say that they did not have enough time to do all they wanted to on their first visit. If it is the third or fourth trip, the answer is basically the same but with this addition "It is the warmth and friendliness of the people" that keeps visitors returning year after year.

Bonaire has the reputation of being laid back, slower paced and very tranquil. The good news is that while this is all quite true, the island also offers a lively nightlife, fun places to visit and world-class restaurants. When you first come to the island, you are a visitor, but when you leave, you are a friend.

Below are just some of the activities and attractions that await you in Bonaire. We will be happy to arrange any of these and more to complete your customized itinerary. Please contact us for more information.

DONKEY SANCTUARY:
A trip to Bonaire cannot be considered complete without stopping by and meeting the wonderful donkeys living in the island’s sanctuary. The ancestors of these animals were originally brought to the island as beasts of burden and to work in the great salt pans that form almost one quarter of Bonaire land mass. When machinery replaced the donkeys, they were set free to fend for themselves. The result was large herds of animals that far outnumbered the population. Today, there are a number of wild donkeys that still inhabit the Kunuku but the majority now enjoy life at the Donkey Sanctuary, where their needs are attended. Bring some fruit or bread along, and you will be making friends fast!

MANGROVE KAYAKING:

You will learn about the sanctuary while gliding through the bird habitats and fish spawning areas. The trip is guided by an experienced ecologist who will briefly interrupt the gentleness with explanations of the interrelationships that exist here between plants and animals. You may see any of the hundreds of species of fish and wildlife which inhabit the reefs of the island and have made Bonaire one of the top snorkeling and scuba diving destinations in the world.
