Travel tips to Bonaire

With all amenities within foot-steps, Den Laman Condominiums has made your convenience their business.

Located on the island of Bonaire, Den Laman is an ideal location for those who value their creature comforts as much as they appreciate instant access to adventure and exploration. Each condominium offers a fully equipped kitchen, living area, living area with LCD-TV with surround sound system and more. All have balconies, many boasting spectacular ocean views. Whether your preference top side is kayaking mountain biking, bird watching or snorkeling, Den Laman’s Discover Bonaire Program offers the means to explore the highlights of the country’s natural treasures.

Dive Friends Bonaire, a PADI 5 Star dive operation located on property, offers easy day and night access via their private pier to Bari Reef, Den Laman’s house reef. Air and Nitrox tanks are available in 80 and 63 cft. Tanks are available 24/7 from both the pier location and at the drive-up location adjacent to their gear locker room and the Den Laman parking area.

The Dive Friends Bonaire facilities make it easy to dive on property or off at any of the 50+ shore dive sites running the length of Bonaire’s leeward coast. Once you arrive, simply gear up, pull on your booties, wade into chest deep water, slip on your fins and relax on your short surface swim (50 yards/meters of less) toward the drop off. Once descended, simply take your landmark (often the mooring buoy), make your dive, and on the way back, slowly head toward shore while enjoying the shallows where you are likely to find pods of squid and long nose needle fish hovering just below the surface, or the yellow headed jaw fish hiding in the coral rubble.

Boat diving adds another dimension to your dive experience on Bonaire, giving you the opportunity to visit sites to nearby Klein Bonaire, where the topography will be noticeably different, or other sites not accessible from shore. Dive Friends Bonaire offers two-tank boat morning dives departing daily, at 8:15 and one-tank afternoon boat dives (with a minimum of 4 divers) departing at 2:15 pm. Follow the dive guide or explore on your own, the choice is yours.

Caribbean – Bonaire

Bonaire is a small island located in the southern Caribbean known for its pioneering role in the preservation of the marine environment. Known for excellent shore diving, snorkeling, and world class windsurfing.

Many descriptions and slogans have been written about Bonaire: Best Kept Secret, Unhurried, Unspoiled, Unforgettable; Diver's Paradise; and the list go on... The fact is all these statements are true, and then some. Truth is over 30% of visitors on Bonaire are repeat customers!

There are a number of reasons people visit our island. First timers generally have heard about the climate, the water, the sun and diving. When asked, repeat visitors generally say that they did not have enough time to do all they wanted to on their first visit. If it is the third or fourth trip, the answer is basically the same but with this addition "It is the warmth and friendliness of the people" that keeps visitors returning year after year.

Bonaire has the reputation of being laid back, slower paced and very tranquil. The good news is that while this is all quite true, the island also offers a lively nightlife, fun places to visit and world-class restaurants. When you first come to the island, you are a visitor, but when you leave, you are a friend.

Below are just some of the activities and attractions that await you in Bonaire. We will be happy to arrange any of these and more to complete your customized itinerary. Please contact us for more information.

A trip to Bonaire cannot be considered complete without stopping by and meeting the wonderful donkeys living in the island’s sanctuary. The ancestors of these animals were originally brought to the island as beasts of burden and to work in the great salt pans that form almost one quarter of Bonaire land mass. When machinery replaced the donkeys, they were set free to fend for themselves. The result was large herds of animals that far outnumbered the population. Today, there are a number of wild donkeys that still inhabit the Kunuku but the majority now enjoy life at the Donkey Sanctuary, where their needs are attended. Bring some fruit or bread along, and you will be making friends fast!

This guided tour through the beginning of the ecosystem, the mangroves is both relaxing and beautiful. You will learn about the sanctuary while gliding through the bird habitats and fish spawning areas. The trip is guided by an experienced ecologist who will briefly interrupt the gentleness with explanations of the interrelationships that exist here between plants and animals. You may see any of the hundreds of species of fish and wildlife which inhabit the reefs of the island and have made Bonaire one of the top snorkeling and scuba diving destinations in the world.

Mountain bike through miles of unspoiled beauty and breathtaking vistas. Select a tour with an experienced ecologists who will acquaint you with more the 100 species of unique birds and an array of cacti while sharing with you the island’s best trails.

Discover the rustic Northern Coastline including the famous 1000 Steps, then disappear into the hills and enjoy the beauty of Goto Lake, a favorite place for flamingos, Para Mira and Rincon, the oldest settlement on the island. Alternatively, you can explore the south which is flat and home to both Salt Flats and flamingos. The color contrasts are spectacular between the Caribbean Sea, pink colored Salt Pans, snow white salt mounds and crystal clear skies.

Experience a nature lover's paradise in Washington / Slagbaai National Park, the first National Park in the Netherlands Antilles. Enjoy the incredible beauty of Bonaire's flora and fauna. Visit the historical museum and then discover the park's hidden coves and beaches.
